Bilingual plays win praise from French audiences

Two French and Vietnamese bilingual plays have won strong applause from French audiences at the on-going 2009 D’Avignon Festival in Avignon, France.

The plays Tian-Angtigone Vietnam (Princess Tian) and Cerle de sable (Sandy Circle), co-produced by the Monter Charge de Paul Theatre and the Vietnamese National Tuong Theatre, have already attracted audiences of almost 2,000.

The festival, which will last for 24 days until July 3, will see almost 900 performances by artists from a number of countries, including the Republic of Korea, Italy, Luxembourg and Australia.

Tian-Angtigone Vietnam, directed by Alain Destandau, tells the story of a Vietnamese woman who is striving for happiness and peace. Meanwhile, Cerle de sable, co-directed by Alain Destandau and People’s Artist Hoang Khiem, highlights how part of the French vitality has remained in Vietnam and fitted in well with efforts to protect the nation’s cultural values.

At present, 25 French producers have plans to buy the two bilingual plays to tour France in 2010 and 2011.
