Eighty-four individuals were awarded prizes for a literary contest over Hanoi’ thousand years of civilization by the Communist Ho Chi Minh Youth Union and Hanoi People’s Committee on October 4.

The contest drew a large number of participants since opening in October 2009 from across the country and overseas, particularly from pupils and soldiers.

A special prize was given to the youth union of Regiment BB38 under Military Zone 5. The first prize was awarded to Vu Tuan Cuong from Cavico Vietnam’s youth union, and 39 organizations and 8 other individuals were awarded for their impressive literary entries.

The contest set new records, including Vu Duy Binh, a one hundred-year-old as the oldest entrant, Hoang Khanh Van from Mai Dong primary school as the youngest entrant, a record-longest entry by Chau Hong from Binh Binh province with 1,261 pages.

The event also attracted special entrants such as Steven Tait from Canada, who wrote his entry on five Vietnamese palm-leaf conical hats, blind nine-year-old Nguyen Duy Khanh, and Nguyen Thi Linh, who wrote her entry in Vietnamese and minority language.
