New reference library for art lovers opens in HCM City

San Art (Art Exchange), a new gallery owned by a group of overseas Vietnamese and local artists in Ho Chi Minh City, opened a reference library for art and art history researchers on October 2.

The library contains books, magazines and bulletins about what is going on in the arts around the world.

”We hope our small library can help young people improve their knowledge of art history and art development worldwide and in Vietnam in particular,” said Vietnamese-American artist Le Quang Dinh, one of San Art’s founders.
Dinh and his colleagues have worked hard to develop San Art, which supports and displays the works of young artists.

Dinh said many of the books and magazines in the collection were gifts from art museums and artists and collectors in Los Angeles, who have had a long-term relationship with the Vietnamese fine arts scene.

”We plan to work in collaboration with art organizations, at home and abroad, to collect more books,” added Dinh, who works and lives in HCM City.
Dinh also hopes the library will become a reliable source of valuable information for young artists, mostly fine arts students, in the creation of new works.

San Art will also host a monthly exhibition of Vietnamese and foreign artists.
