Top weightlifter banned for two years

The International Weightlifting Federation has decided to ban Vietnamese top weightlifter Hoang Anh Tuan for two years after he was tested positive for doping at the 2010 World Weightlifting Championships in Turkey.

Also for this reason, Tuan was expelled from Vietnam’s delegation to the 16 Asian Games before the opening day.

The punishment means that Tuan will have little chance to participate in pinnacle competitions, say sports experts.

The Vietnam Weightlifting Federation also has to pay a fine of US$5,000.
