A ten-day exhibition on Thang Long Royal Citadel opened at 18 Hoang Dieu street. This is the first time relics from the archeological site have been displayed to domestic and foreign visitors.
On show are artifacts from Hanoi’s 1,000-year history during the Dai La, Dinh, Pre-Le, Ly, Tran, Le, Mac, Le Trung Hung and Nguyen dynasties.
The Thang Long Royal Citadel Centre was recognised as a World Heritage site by UNESCO on August 1.
*** On the same day, a bookcase on the theme of “1,000-year-Thang Long” was officially presented to the public in the National Library of Vietnam.
The bookcase consists of 94 books, including 22 on arts and literature, 19 about society and culture, 17 histories, 5 on geography, 4 on economics, and 16 collective documents.
Those books consolidate information about Thang Long-Hanoi history and culture during its 1,000-year history.
The bookcase project was invested by the Hanoi Publishing House and began in 2001. It has been deployed since September 2006 and is now basically complete.
*** Another photography exhibition, titled “1,000 views of Hanoi”, opened at the Hanoi Library at 47 Ba Trieu street.
The best photos were chosen from the “Hanoi nostalgia” contest, co-organised by NESCAFE and the website www.vnphoto.net from August 1 to September 15, are on display. The exhibition gathers 1,000 photos of Hanoi with various views on life, people, landscape and memories.
The contest received 1,363 entrees from over 300 photographers.
The organising board selected the 150 best photos and one special large-sized panorama of Hoan Kiem Lake to display and sell at an auction for charity.
At the opening ceremony of this exhibition on October 2, the 8 best photographers were awarded prizes and certificates of merit.
*** In Ho Chi Minh City, over 5,000 people walked around 30/4 Park on October 2 to celebrate the capital’s 1,000th birthday.
Participants came from HCM City’s municipal People’s Committee, People’s Council and Fatherland Front, and walked along with workers, officials and students.
The walk was organised by Sai Gon Giai Phong (Sai Gon Liberation) newspaper in coordination with the Youth Union, Red Cross and HCM City Television.
The city’s businesses offered 40 bicycles, 10,000 environmentally friendly re-usable bags and 10,000 bus tickets to poor students and workers.
