Vietnam to hold int’l tea festival

The first ever international tea festival in Vietnam will take place in Thai Nguyen Province from November 11-15.

It is expected that visitors from ten countries and territories around the world will gather with the people of 30 provinces and cities, 50 traditional villages nationwide and 25 tea-trading enterprises in Thai Nguyen. It is estimated there will be around 460,000 visitors, 60,000 of them international tourists.

The festival aims to attract investors to cooperate and to develop tea manufacturing and processing with local farmers.

An international seminar called “Vietnam’s tea: international integration”, tea cultural activities and other entertainment programs will be held.

Vietnam is ranked fifth in the world for tea production and export. Tea products are exported to China, Taiwan, Russia, India, the U.S. and Japan. In 2010 Vietnam exported 130,000 tons of tea and pocketed US$190 million in turnover.

Thai Nguyen Province has the second largest tea production in Vietnam, after Lam Dong Province. The locality has been well-known for its green tea, aromatized tea and black tea.

According to organizers, the festival is a tremendous opportunity for Vietnam to promote its tea products and culture to the world and networking.
