Pursuant to the State Bank of Vietnam's Circular No.20/2011/TT-NHNN, Vietnamese citizens travelling abroad will be allowed to buy foreign currency in cash worth US$100 per day for a maximum of ten days abroad,
Travellers can buy foreign currency at authorised credit institutions to cover expenses, including food, pocket-money and transportation, for themselves and children sharing a passport with them.
This applies to Vietnamese people going abroad to study, travel, receive medical treatment, do business and visit their relatives.
For other legitimate purposes, individuals can buy foreign currency in cash at authorised credit institutions based on the institution’s foreign currency balance.
The foreign currency bought in Vietnam and carried abroad must be the domestic currency of the traveller’s destination. If the requested currency is not available, individuals are allowed to buy another currency that can be freely converted.
