The tree is in full bloom in late April, signalling the arrival of a new summer.

Coming to Hanoi at this time of year, visitors can enjoy not only the red but purple colours of flamboyant trees blossoming along major streets.

The purple variety was first crossbred and grew successfully in the Central Highland resort city of Da Lat which has temperate weather.

However, this type of tree is not popular in Hanoi as it requires skilful tending techniques and favourable weather conditions.

Purple flamboyant can be found along Nguyen Chi Thanh and Lieu Giai streets in Hanoi.
