A State funeral was held on January 20 in Hanoi for former Party Central Committee Secretary Hong Ha, who died on January 14 at the age of 83.
The service was attended by the newly-elected Party General Secretary and National Assembly Chairman, Nguyen Phu Trong, State President Nguyen Minh Triet, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Vice National Assembly Chairperson Tong Thi Phong, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Huynh Dam and other former Party and State leaders.
Also present at the memorial service was Thongloun Sisoulith, Politburo member and Head of the External Relations Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.
Laos’s Politburo member and Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavat sent a wreath to the service to pay tribute to the deceased, who was former Head of the Party Central Committee’s External Relations Commission, former Chief of the Party Central Committee’s Office, and former Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan (People) daily.
In the funeral memorial book, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong wrote that Hong Ha had made a huge contribution to the Party’s revolutionary cause as well as the nation, especially in the fields of ideology, culture, journalism and external relations.
The former Party Central Committee Secretary was buried at the Mai Dich Cemetery in Hanoi.
