Ben En National Park has a wide and diverse system of lakes, caves, mountains and forest that creates favorable conditions for eco-tourism development. The park is also the habitat of many rare and precious varieties of fauna and flora. Coming there, tourists in Vietnam travel are attracted to its poetic and majestic scenery.
Ben En National Park covers two districts of Nhu Xuan and Nhu Thanh, 36 km from Thanh Hoa City, Thanh Hoa province. Being affected by the tropical monsoon and surrounded by hills and mountains, the National Park is the habitat of many rare and precious varieties of fauna and flora.
There are plentiful of 462 varieties and 125 orders of flora in Ben En National Park. “Ben En National Park is the allocation centre of Lim Xanh (scientific name: Erythrophloeum fordii Olive), of which some hundred-year-old trees has the diameter of 3 meters”, said Le Duc Giang, the Director of this National Park. Some other trees can be listed as: Cho Chi, Vu huong, Vang tam, Lim xet, Lat hoa, etc. and more than 300 species of rare medicinal herbs.
The national park is a favorable habitat for lots of groups of insects, birds, rodents, animals with hooves and carnivore. The results of many surveys and investigations point out that the Park possesses 50 orders, 177 families, 216 varieties and more than 1,000 species of animals, including 91 species of animals, 201 species of birds, 54 species of reptiles, 31 species of amphibians, 68 species of fish and 499 species of insects. Many of them are identified in the Red Book, for example, elephants, gavals, Bao Lua, Khi mat do (Macaca arctoides), Vuon bac ma (Hylobates concolor leucogienis), etc. It is the large bio-diversity of flora and fauna of Ben En National Park that inspires hundreds of domestic and foreign researches and scientists to implement their scientific researches on “Preserving the gene source of some rare and precious plants in Ben En National Park”.
In Ben En National Park, Song Muc Lake covers total area of 4,000 hectares and tens of meters in depth. The lake includes of two small lakes: the upper widening over 3,000 hectares and the lower widening about 800 hectares. Tourists in Vietnam travel will be impressed by a romantic landscape of wonderful caves on 24 islands on the lake. The islands are also the home of some species of birds and animals living together.
Besides the flora and fauna, Ben En National Park is also the home of the Kinh, Muong Thai and Tho, of which each ethnic minorities feature its unique cultural characteristic. Therefore, the park is an ideal destination for those who are fond of cultural tourism.
Up to now, local authorities have tried their best to make it more attractive to many of both domestic and foreign tourists in Vietnam travel: islands are being constructed to become ideal places for resting; hotels are being built, transportations are more convenient; new routes are being opened.
In a near future, Ben En National Park will surely become an ideal eco-tourist area because of its diverse system of lakes, islands, forests, rivers, springs, caves and grottos.
