The hosts made a strong start, controlling the game with the support of their home crowd.
They had an early chance to open the scoring in the fifth minute when Trong Hoang faced Indonesia’s goalie but failed to find the target.
Vietnam then created several dangerous attacks on the visitors’ goal but the Indonesian keeper was in fine form.
After being mostly on the defensive, the visitors fired more attacks in search of a score, but they were well-repelled by the solid Vietnamese defence.
In the second half, Vietnam played defensively and relied on counter attacks to find a winner, but neither side was able to find the net.
On September 15, Vietnam also played out a goalless draw against hosts Indonesia in a friendly match at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium in Surabaya.
