Vietnam won the trophy of the ASEAN friendship table tennis tournament organised by the Embassy of Vietnam in Egypt on March 16.

In the qualifying round, Vietnam defeated three strong rivals from Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines, to enter the quarter-finals.

It then overwhelmed Malaysia in the quarter-final game and defeated Brunei in the final round. In competitions for ambassadors, the Vietnamese representative was also placed first, followed by Brunei.

The tournament attracted 50 athletes from eight countries: Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei and Myanmar.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Egypt Dao Thanh Chung said this year Vietnam will co-ordinate with other embassies to organise friendship golf and football tournaments to strengthen exchange and mutual understanding among countries.
