Co Ong Airport is located on Con Dao Island on the shore of Ba Ria Vung Tau province. It was formerly a military airbase, but now it is also used to receive civil flights. At present, the airport can only receive small civil flight such as ATR72 or Fokker 70, but considerable investment has been made by the government to enhance the capability of this airport to serve bigger aircrafts such as AirBus A320/A321.
Air Mekong and Vasco are the only two airlines that have direct flights to Co Ong Island. Every week Vasco organize 24 flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao Island and 4 other flights from Can Tho. The fare for one way trip on these routes is approximately 740,000 – 1,300,000 VND (37 – 60 USD) for Ho Chi Minh City – Con Dao Island trip and 630, 000 – 1,000,000 VND (31.5 – 50USD) for Can Tho – Con Dao Island trip. Air Mekong flight is cheaper with the lowest price of $33 for Ho Chi Minh City – Con Dao Island route, but it only has one daily flight at 13.10 (local time).
From Con Dao Airport to island center
Transportation at Con Island is poor and difficult, so it could be hard for you to get in Con Dao Island borough from Co Ong airport. If you travel in groups, there are contract buses to pick you up at the airport. If you travel alone, you can go with a group of visitors on their contract bus at the price of about 2 USD.
